Bobby Kennedy Jr.’s reputation is as an anti-vaccine activist, a deeply anti-science perspective. But, ironically to some, in past decades he was better known as an environmental attorney. And now he’s following in the footsteps of both his father and his uncle by running for President of the United States.
Although some might see hypocrisy in Jr.’s various advocacies, I don’t. If he was a science guy, then maybe; but he’s not, he’s a “whatever’s trendy” guy. Environmental activism has always been trendy, in that it’s fundamentally anticorporate and counterculture. Similarly, being anti-vaccine is anticorporate and counterculture. He’s actually quite consistent. He’s a joiner.
Don’t let his past environmental activism fool you into thinking he’s a science guy — in fact, much of his activism was never based on science. On climate change, where some have lauded him as a pro-environment hero, he’s really just a conspiracy theorist:
