Here’s what History Channel says “has concerned experts”
They get one thing right — it is indeed from history

HISTORY has a new episode of their latest UFO program, and includes as unexplainable yet another event that was explained long ago. In accordance with their normal practice, it’s an old, old event. It happened 40 years ago in the Hudson River valley in upstate New York. It was indeed seen by hundreds of people over a couple of years of repeated events, though this documentary multiplies that up to thousands.
Their press release about the new show appears to really play up the mystery. Just look at this shocking headline in this week’s The Sun:
Now I don’t know about you, but I’d take that very seriously indeed. Thus HISTORY’s press release about their show, and thus The Sun’s frightening headline.
As you can see from the photo on this page, the UFO was a V formation of lights that went flying around. Lots of people saw it, and it did indeed continue, off and on, for a couple of years.
Five or six years ago I did a Skeptoid episode about this event, and as you can probably guess, it was never actually a mystery at all; though most people weren’t aware of what was really going on. That happened when a state police officer did the obvious thing and followed the lights to their destination.
