Well, it’s August 1. If you’re reading this, you survived the hottest July on record. Not everyone did.
We didn’t crack the all-out surface air temperature record (see today’s Skeptoid episode for everything on that), but we did manage the hottest July in 120,000 years.
A reasonable question to ask is how could we possibly know that? Were you there with a thermometer 120,000 years ago? Of course not. Nobody had to be. The Earth leaves us lots of evidence, so here’s how we know.
