"The UFO Movie" is now on Amazon Prime Video
It only took like 6 months, but it's finally there!
Thanks for reading my newsletter that separates reality from bullshit in pop culture. Today’s installment is a bit of a departure, more of just an announcement really, which is why I put it in a free Monday edition. Paid subscribers get Tuesday and Thursday editions as well.
Woot! My 2023 documentary The UFO Movie THEY Don’t Want You to See is now available on Amazon Prime Video. This is the cheapest way to watch it ad-free: you can rent for US$1.99 or buy for US$4.99.
The movie has been trending on Tubi for about 6 weeks now (where it’s free with ads), meaning it’s showing up in people’s recommendations. This is huge; it’s really the only way a grassroots indie production like this will get a lot of eyeballs. Hopefully enough people will rent or buy on Prime to do the same; I wish they were offering it free to subscribers!
I asked Prime to make it available in all markets, but to my knowledge it’s currently only available in the US and UK. If you are able to access it in any other market, please let me know at brian@briandunning.com.
As you probably know, I did make the movie available for free to all (with ads) on YouTube back at the New Year. So why have it on paid streaming services too? The reason is to get as many eyeballs on it as possible. This is not a money-making venture, which is why I’m happy to have it on free services. It’s all about mission fulfillment: Teach science. Teach real astronomy. The more science literate people are, the less they’ll continue to have their brains corroded by pseudoscience programming like Ancient Aliens, The Secret of Skinwalker Ranch, The Proof Is Out There, TMZ Presents: UFO Revolution, and this giant shit list of bullcrap that Entertainment Weekly just published a week ago.
Not since Carl Sagan’s original 13-part PBS series Cosmos: A Personal Voyage has real science been in the top 10 of programming — and that was back in 1980, 44 years ago. Since then, filmmakers and TV networks realized how easy it was to rope in innocent viewers with sensationalized alarmist bullshit about aliens and UFOs, and since people tend to believe whatever they see on TV (sadly they really do), this kind of crap programming has held all the top slots.
So, The UFO Movie was my personal best effort to do what little I could to counter this, and I leveraged the public’s mania for UFOs to see if I could teach a little bit of real astronomy. I think it’s the best work I’ve ever done. I hope you find it worthwhile and will share it on your social media!
UFO-logists have been trying to tar The UFO Movie THEY Don’t Want You to See with 1 out of 10 ratings on IMDb. If you've seen it (and you should!) and liked it, please counter that with a real review at https://www.imdb.com/title/tt21439392/.
Hi Brian. The film Mirage Men is on the Entertainment Weekly list. You cite the book of the same name in your episode on the MJ 12 documents. Do you now think this book is Bullcrap? Thank you for your work. I'm a big fan of your podcast and I enjoyed The UFO Movie.
