So as you probably know, my science documentary about the popular UFO craze (The UFO Movie THEY Don’t Want You to See) is in the film festival circuit right now. All of us in the festival loop get email updates and newsletters about what other movies are in the mix, and, well, I’m not the only one who decided the UFO topic was hot one right now. Big surprise.
I have seen so many dozens of these go by that I have not even bothered to keep track. The majority appear to be amateurish YouTube-level conspiracy videos, but there is no shortage of professionally made ones either. Not single one that I have seen, though, is anything other than what we’ve all seen a million times before: generic retelling of classic UFO stories, each trying to sound more mysterious and creepy than the last, each insisting the government knows all about it and is covering it up. Credulous storytelling, nothing more.
It really is sad. Literally not one of these other filmmakers attempted to do anything other than the bare minimum, which is exactly what everyone else has been doing. At least I can be proud that my own film is the exact opposite. I really should have titled it The Exact Opposite of Every Other UFO Movie Out There.
