The Monday edition of this newsletter is always free to all, but the Tuesday and Thursday editions are paywalled. But since today is just an announcement, and it feels dumb to charge people to hear your announcement, this one’s free too!
My 2023 film The UFO Movie THEY Don’t Want You to See is getting more available every day! Apologies to those who haven’t caught it yet, these things can just be slow to roll out sometimes.
SETI Institute
First, the BIG NEWS… The awesome SETI Institute has selected this for their public Movie Night in October! It’s currently scheduled for October 18. This is a chance to see the movie for free from anywhere. I will be there for a conversation and audience Q&A after the screening. These events are virtual and conducted over Zoom, including the screening, so you can cast it to your TV or enjoy on your device. I am super excited and honored by this. The movie teaches astronomy using the public interest in UFOs as a springboard, and having the SETI Institute recognize that, and participate in sharing it with me, is really the highest honor I could have hoped for with this film. You can follow SETI’s Eventbrite page to get notified when you can register for this free screening.
And if you’re wondering who THEY are in the title… well, there’s actually an answer for that.
CSICon 2023
The following week, CSICon 2023 attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a free screening, at which I will also be present for a conversation and Q&A. This is on Sunday afternoon following the conclusion of the main program. This is live, in person, in Las Vegas, and is open to CSICon attendees only. RSVP for free on the Skeptoid Media website — and seating is extremely limited, so apologies if it fills up.
Skeptoid Store
The Skeptoid USB Flash Drive is available on the Skeptoid store for $35, and it comes with all the movies we’ve ever produced, including this one, Science Friction, Principles of Curiosity, and more.
Streaming!
Finally, the movie is already available on streaming for rental. You can watch it right now on Vimeo, which (last I checked) is $9.99 for a 72-hour rental:
The movie has also been picked up by the following streaming services, but is not yet available as of this writing. Their schedules are a black box, it could appear today, tomorrow, or as far off as two months:
Amazon Prime Vimeo: Purchase and rental, eventually free with a Prime subscription.
Apple TV: Purchase and rental.
Tubi TV: Free with ads.
PlayNowMedia: Purchase, rental, or free with ads.
Others will follow, and I will keep the movie’s home page updated with the current options.
Film Festivals
Since the movie is currently on the festival circuit, it is being featured at many festivals — too many for me to list here. Check those near you.
One that’s available to the public is the Brooklyn Sci-Fi Film Festival. The UFO Movie, plus some ~100 others, will be available to stream October 9-15 (tickets at that link).
And…
I am very much in promo mode!! If anyone has an introduction to a science/astronomy/filmmaking/(or otherwise relevant) podcast that might like to talk about the film, please connect me with them! (brian@skeptoid.com)
Enjoy!
A lot of people worked really hard on this, and gave it their very best. Personally, I consider it the best work I’ve ever done — the culmination of all my years with Skeptoid. I made it not just for skeptics, but mainly for the people who need it most — those who would otherwise be forced to turn to Ancient Aliens or to congressional UFO hearings to get any information, and those are terrible places to get it. I hope you enjoy it, and share it far and wide.
